Student-run Business

CIS students run and manage the daily operations of the Al Jawdah Zone, a copy center in the College. Al Jawdah Zone is a retail environment designed to give students real-world management and entrepreneurial experiences. The store operates in partnership with Fedex Kinkos, a well-known international company, and provides students with skills that contribute to their employability in the service sector.

Al Jawdah Zone is a profit making business. Students are involved in every aspect of the business from expanding the product line and running an efficient accounting system to producing financial reports and ensuring store visibility. They learn to operate the Point of Sale system (POS) to record and sort purchasing transactions and use accounting systems to print automated balance sheet and financial statements.

In addition, students practice marketing principles through advertising store products and services in the local College magazines: Desert Dawn and E-Sage.
